Why it matters
Nauty, or Naughty, is dealer shorthand for the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the integrated-bracelet steel sports watch designed by Gerald Genta in 1976. The steel 5711 became the most hyped luxury watch of the modern era, and Patek discontinuing it in 2021 only intensified demand.
Nautilus prices are reference-specific and move fast, so comps matter more than a general sense of the market. At these values, do not transact remotely without documentation and a middleman inspection; the Nautilus is among the most counterfeited high-end watches.
Common questions
- What is a Nauty or Naughty watch?
- It is slang for the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the integrated-bracelet luxury sports watch introduced in 1976. The steel 5711 is its most famous reference.
- Why is the Patek Nautilus so expensive?
- Limited steel production, the Gerald Genta design, and surging demand made the Nautilus a status piece. Patek's 2021 discontinuation of the steel 5711 pushed secondary-market prices well above retail.
