Why it matters
Unworn or BNIB describes a watch that has never been worn outside the dealer counter. Stickers are still on the case, plastics are intact, and the warranty card is unstamped or freshly stamped. Truly unworn watches are uncommon on the secondary market and command a premium over Mint.
Sellers occasionally call lightly-worn watches unworn. If the case shows any swirl marks under macro photography, it's not unworn.
Common questions
- What does BNIB mean?
- BNIB stands for Brand New In Box. It refers to a watch that has never been worn and ships with all original packaging, plastics, and stickers intact.
- Is unworn the same as new?
- On the secondary market, unworn means the watch has not been worn but it may not be sold by the original dealer. A new watch from an authorized dealer is also unworn but comes with a fresh manufacturer warranty.
