The story

The IW328201 is the current-generation steel Pilot's Watch Mark XX, introduced by IWC in 2022 as the successor to the long-running Mark XVIII. It keeps the 40mm case diameter of its predecessor but is slightly thinner, at 10.8mm versus 11mm, and gains a screw-down crown and case construction rated to 100 meters of water resistance, up from 60 meters on the Mark XVIII. The most significant change from the Mark XVIII is internal. The IW327001 ran on Calibre 30110, an IWC caliber built on a Sellita/ETA 2892 base with a 42-hour power reserve. The Mark XX instead uses the in-house Calibre 32111, part of IWC's 32000 family, which extends the power reserve to roughly five days. On the dial, the date window was moved further toward the edge for better visual balance opposite the 9 o'clock position, the hands changed from black to rhodium plated, and the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock indexes were lengthened, a detail that echoes pre-Mark XVIII dials. The Mark line traces back to IWC's Second World War era Mark 11 pilot's watch made for the British Ministry of Defence, and the Mark XX continues that lineage as the brand's core steel pilot's watch.

What to check before you buy

Confirm whether a listing is the black-dial IW328201 or its blue-dial sibling IW328203, since both share the same case, movement and price point and are easy to mix up in secondhand listings. Because the Mark XX uses the EasX-CHANGE strap system, check that any spare or extra strap included is genuine IWC hardware, as third-party straps will not use the same quick-release mechanism. A full set should include the strap deployant clasp, warranty card and box; the Calibre 32111's long power reserve means the movement can be serviced less frequently than older Mark models, but buyers should still ask for service history on watches more than five years old.

Common questions

What is the difference between the Mark XX and the Mark XVIII?

The Mark XX uses the in-house Calibre 32111 with about a five-day power reserve, versus the Mark XVIII's 42-hour Calibre 30110. Water resistance also increased to 100 meters from 60 meters, and the dial and hands were revised.

Is the IW328201 automatic or manual wind?

It is automatic, powered by IWC's self-winding Calibre 32111.

Does the Mark XX come on a bracelet?

IWC sells the IW328201 primarily on a leather or rubber strap using the EasX-CHANGE system; a steel bracelet is not a standard factory configuration for this reference.

How much water resistance does the Mark XX have?

It is rated to 100 meters, an improvement over the Mark XVIII's 60 meters.

What movement family is the Calibre 32111 part of?

It belongs to IWC's in-house 32000 caliber family, which also powers other current Pilot's Watch models, and is built around a longer main spring barrel for extended power reserve.
