The story
The Datejust 41 collection replaced the Datejust II in 2016, bringing slimmer case and lug proportions to the larger 41mm Datejust size, and the steel-and-white-gold 126334 followed in 2017 as the direct successor to the Datejust II reference 116334. Both the outgoing 116334 and the new 126334 share the same formula: an Oystersteel case and bracelet paired with a fluted bezel in solid 18k white gold, since Rolex makes that fluting only in precious metal. What changed was the movement, the 116334's calibre 3136 (about 48 hours of power reserve) gave way to the calibre 3235, shared with the Submariner and GMT-Master II generations of the same era, with a Chronergy escapement and roughly 70 hours of reserve. The 126334 has also become the widest canvas in the current Datejust 41 range, offered over the years in more dial finishes and colors, from plain sunburst stick dials to Roman numeral Wimbledon and fluted-motif textures, than any other reference in the line, while keeping the same case, bezel, and movement throughout.
What to check before you buy
The fluted bezel is genuinely solid 18k white gold even though the case and bracelet are steel, a detail that surprises some buyers until they notice the weight and color difference up close. Confirm whether a given watch is on a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet, both have been offered since the reference launched, and it comes down to preference rather than one being more correct than the other. Given how many dial variants exist under this one reference number, it's worth checking the exact configuration (dial color and pattern) against the specific dial reference suffix when buying loose, since that's what confirms the piece is a factory-original combination rather than a later dial swap.
