The story
The steel Cosmograph Daytona ref. 126500LN was introduced in 2023 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Daytona line, replacing the ref. 116500LN that had been in production since 2016. The 116500LN was itself a milestone reference, since it was the first steel Daytona to receive the black Cerachrom ceramic bezel that had previously been reserved for precious metal versions. The main change in the 126500LN is under the dial: Rolex replaced the caliber 4130 with the new caliber 4131, a movement built around a monobloc chronograph bridge that reduces the number of separate components in the chronograph mechanism, which Rolex says improves reliability and shock resistance. The case also received subtle updates, including a slightly reworked bezel edge and crown guard profile, while the 100 meter water resistance and Oyster bracelet carried over from the previous generation. The white-dial version continues the black snail-finished subdial layout that collectors have nicknamed the Panda dial since it first appeared on earlier Daytona references. The black-dial version does not carry that nickname.

Because demand for any current steel Daytona is high, buyers should be especially careful about full-set completeness: box, warranty card, and any accompanying tags or hangtags matter more here than on many other Rolex references when it comes to resale confidence.
