Why it matters
Papers Only means the watch comes with its warranty card or papers but the original box is missing. For most modern watches, the papers matter more than the box: a stamped, dated card proves where and when the watch was sold and confirms it is under warranty.
When buying papers only, check that the card's reference and serial match the watch exactly. A mismatched card is worse than no card. If you are selling, a clear photo of the card alongside the watch usually closes the gap that a missing box creates.
Common questions
- What does papers only mean?
- Papers only means the watch includes its warranty card and documentation but not the original box. The card proves point of sale and warranty status.
- Is papers only better than box only?
- For most modern watches, yes. The warranty card carries the reference, serial, and sale date that prove provenance and warranty, which matters more to value than the box alone.
