The story
The AB0137 family is the current 46mm Navitimer B01 Chronograph, part of the wider relaunch of the Navitimer line Breitling carried out in 2022. That relaunch consolidated the collection around three case sizes built on the in-house Calibre 01, 41mm, 43mm and 46mm, and retired the older reference numbering used on the prior generation. The 46mm reference it replaced was generally known by the AB0127 prefix, a Navitimer 01 that shared the same overall slide rule chronograph format but with a different dial layout, including the AOPA wings logo positioned lower on the dial rather than at 12 o'clock. The 2022 update moved the wings back to their historical position at 12, flattened the slide rule scale slightly for legibility, gave the crystal a more pronounced dome, and introduced new dial colors including blue, green and copper alongside the traditional black, silver and white options. The Navitimer itself dates to 1954, when Breitling designed it as a pilot's chronograph with a circular slide rule for in-flight calculations, developed in cooperation with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, whose wings logo the dial still carries.
What to check before you buy
Buyers should confirm the exact case size before purchasing, since Breitling currently sells the same Calibre 01 movement and general design in 41mm, 43mm and 46mm cases under different reference prefixes, and the 46mm AB0137 is a notably large watch on the wrist. Distinguish the current AB0137 from the older AB0127-prefixed 46mm Navitimer 01, which has a different dial layout and is generally the less expensive of the two on the secondary market. Because the slide rule bezel is functional and can be rotated, check that it turns smoothly in both directions and that the printed scale is not worn or scratched.
