The story
Tudor introduced the Pelagos in 2012 as a professional dive watch positioned above the Black Bay line, with a lightweight titanium case, a helium escape valve, and a 500 meter depth rating aimed squarely at commercial and technical diving use rather than only recreational wear. The original version, the ref. 25500TN, used an ETA-based automatic movement. In 2015, Tudor updated the line with the ref. 25600TN, which kept the same 42mm titanium case, black ceramic bezel, and 500 meter water resistance as its predecessor but replaced the ETA movement with Tudor's own manufacture Caliber MT5612, raising the power reserve to about 70 hours. The update was introduced alongside a new blue-dial sibling, the ref. 25600TB. The Pelagos has continued to serve as Tudor's flagship dive watch, distinguished from the Black Bay dive watches by its titanium construction, helium escape valve, and significantly deeper water resistance rating.
What to check before you buy
Buyers should not confuse the 25600TN with the earlier 25500TN; both look similar, but the movement, power reserve, and case-back markings differ, so checking the reference number is the reliable way to identify which generation a given watch is. The titanium bracelet's clasp includes a spring-loaded rapid adjustment system designed to compensate for wetsuit thickness or wrist swelling, and buyers should test that this mechanism still functions smoothly.
