The story
The 26470ST is a generation of the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in the model's long-running 42mm steel format, presented in 2014 as a substantial revamp of the case architecture that had carried the Offshore chronograph since the 2000s. It kept the collection's signature oversized octagonal bezel and Mega Tapisserie dial while updating the lug shape, crown guard, and pusher detailing, giving the watch a more refined profile than the earlier Offshore generations without abandoning the model's bulk and presence. Mechanically, the reference used the Calibre 3126/3840, an automatic chronograph movement combining AP's in-house 3120 base caliber with a modular chronograph mechanism, delivering roughly 50 hours of power reserve. This movement had already been used across earlier 42mm Offshore chronograph references, so the 26470ST's main contribution to the line was case and dial refinement rather than a mechanical leap. The Royal Oak Offshore itself traces back to the 1993 reference 25721ST, which took Gerald Genta's original 1972 Royal Oak design and scaled it up dramatically for a market that wanted larger, sportier watches.
