The story

The 15510ST is the current 41mm Royal Oak Selfwinding reference, introduced in 2022 as part of Audemars Piguet's 50th anniversary refresh of the Royal Oak line, replacing the reference 15500ST that had been the standard 41mm three-hand Royal Oak since 2019. The case size and movement carried over largely unchanged from its predecessor, since the underlying Calibre 4302 automatic movement, with its 70-hour power reserve, had only been introduced with the 15500ST a few years earlier. The changes AP made with the 15510ST were mainly cosmetic but noticeable up close. The Grande Tapisserie pattern was extended across the entire dial, including the area previously reserved for a plain minute track on the 15500ST, and the hour markers and hands were made thinner and slightly longer for a cleaner look. Some early 15510ST examples from 2022 also carried special 50th Anniversary case backs and rotor engravings before AP moved to standard production detailing. The 41mm Selfwinding line itself descends from reference 15400ST, introduced in 2012 as AP's first Royal Oak built around a fully in-house three-hand automatic movement, which was succeeded by the 15500ST in 2019 and then the 15510ST in 2022.

What to check before you buy

Because the 15500ST and 15510ST share the same case dimensions and movement, distinguishing them from photographs alone can be difficult. Look closely at the dial, since the 15510ST's Grande Tapisserie pattern runs edge to edge without the plain minute track seen on the 15500ST, and compare hand and marker proportions if in doubt. Confirm the specific commercial reference suffix, since AP has released the 15510ST in numerous dial colors including some limited-availability 50th Anniversary finishes. As an integrated-bracelet sports watch, bracelet stretch and clasp wear are common points to inspect on examples that have seen regular use, and any bracelet sizing or link replacement should ideally be done by AP or an authorized service center.

Common questions

What replaced the Royal Oak 15500ST?

The 15510ST replaced the 15500ST in 2022 as part of the Royal Oak's 50th anniversary update, keeping the same 41mm case and Calibre 4302 movement.

What is different about the 15510ST dial compared with the 15500ST?

The 15510ST extends the Grande Tapisserie pattern across the full dial face, removing the plain minute track used on the 15500ST, and uses thinner, slightly longer hour markers and hands.

What movement powers the 15510ST?

It uses the Calibre 4302, an in-house automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve, the same caliber introduced with the 15500ST in 2019.

Is the 15510ST water resistant enough for swimming?

It is rated to 50 meters, which is generally considered light swimming and splash resistance rather than a dedicated dive rating.

Are all 15510ST watches 50th Anniversary editions?

No. Only early 2022 production carried 50th Anniversary case back markings and rotor detailing. Later production uses AP's standard case back and rotor.
