The story
The reference 5227 line was introduced by Patek Philippe in 2013 as a modern take on the classic round Calatrava dress watch, offered in rose, white, or yellow gold. Its defining technical feature at launch was a hinged caseback, the first time Patek had fitted this traditional dress watch style with a display back that swings open on a hinge like a pocket watch case. The white gold version, 5227G, was originally offered with an ivory dial as reference 5227G-001, before Patek introduced the black-dialed 5227G-010 as the standard white gold configuration. Both variants used the automatic Caliber 324 S C, offering a 45-hour power reserve inside a 39mm case with the plain applied indices, dauphine hands, and clean date window that define the modern Calatrava aesthetic. In 2026, Patek Philippe removed the 5227G-010 from its catalog and introduced a new white gold reference, 5227G-015, with a different dial finish, as part of a broader refresh of the Calatrava collection.
