The story

Rolex describes the Oyster Perpetual as the direct descendant of the 1926 Oyster, with the first Oyster Perpetual launching in 1931 as the brand's first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch. The line is the entry point to the Oyster range, and until 2020 its largest size was 39mm.

Rolex introduced the 124300 in 2020 as the Oyster Perpetual 41, replacing the 39mm 114300. The case grew to 41mm, the time-only dial gained double baton markers at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, and the movement became the calibre 3230, the same one used in the 2020 Submariner 124060. The headline change was colour. The range launched with seven dials, including lacquered coral red, turquoise and yellow versions that the press tied to the Stella dials Rolex first used on Day-Date models in the 1970s. The watches went on sale in September 2020.

In 2025 Rolex moved the 41mm model to the reference 134300 and softened the palette to matte lacquer dials. The size and the calibre 3230 stayed, while the lugs, bezel, crown and clasp were lightly reworked.

What to check before you buy

The 124300 and the 134300 that replaced it in 2025 are both 41mm with the calibre 3230, so confirm the reference on the paperwork rather than going by size. Monochrome Watches lists what changed on the later watch: a larger crown, slightly thinner lugs and bezel, a slimmer Oysterclasp and matte lacquer dials. The bright coral red, turquoise and yellow dials belong to the 124300 era and were dropped from the 41mm range with that update.

On the silver dial the hands and markers are 18k yellow gold, and on the bright black dial they are 18k white gold, so check that the hands and markers match the dial. The coloured dials are lacquered, so look at them closely in good light. The bracelet has the Easylink 5mm extension but not the Glidelock micro-adjustment found on the Submariner, so check that the clasp closes firmly and the extension works. The caseback is solid steel, so there is no view of the movement.

Common questions

What movement is in the 124300?

The in-house calibre 3230, an automatic with about 70 hours of power reserve. It has the Chronergy escapement and a blue Parachrom hairspring, and it is certified as a Superlative Chronometer.

What did the 124300 replace?

The 39mm Oyster Perpetual 114300. The 41mm case arrived in 2020 and the 39mm model was discontinued.

Is the 124300 the same watch as the 134300?

They are close but not identical. Rolex moved the 41mm model to the reference 134300 in 2025. Both are 41mm with the calibre 3230, but the later watch has a larger crown, slightly thinner lugs, a slimmer Oysterclasp and new matte lacquer dials.

Does the Oyster Perpetual 41 have a date window?

No. It is a time-only watch that shows hours, minutes and seconds.

How water resistant is it?

It is rated to 100 meters, with a screw-down crown and caseback.
