What bracelet does your Rolex wear?

Look up your watch

Try

Put in your watch reference and get the bracelet that reference actually wears, not every bracelet the model was offered with: the metal, the lug width and which clasp, plus, where we have them, how many links a full bracelet has and how many come out with a screwdriver. It answers 623 references sold from 2002 on: the 188 in Rolex's price lists since 2022 and 368 more from 2002 to 2021, each from Rolex's own documents, plus the ones Rolex never printed a bracelet for, researched one at a time. It also gives Rolex's own replacement bracelet for 78 older watches, from the bracelet tables in Rolex's 2011 US price list.

The seven bracelets

Oyster

Three flat links across, with a broad centre link and two narrower outer links. It is the structural bracelet: flat, wide-surfaced, and the one fitted to most Perpetual and Professional models. The 2015 catalogue lists it in three groups: Oyster, Oyster for Sky-Dweller and Oyster for Professional.

Jubilee

Five links across: two flat outer links with three smaller rounded links running down the centre. More articulated than an Oyster, so it drapes more closely, and visually dressier. Made for the Datejust and still listed against the Datejust and Lady-Datejust sizes. In the 2015 book it is always on a concealed Crownclasp. On current watches that is still true of the Datejust 31 and Lady-Datejust, while the Datejust 36, Datejust 41 and Sky-Dweller Jubilees close on an Oysterclasp with Easylink and the GMT-Master II Jubilee on an Oysterlock with Easylink.

President

Three links across like an Oyster, but every link is semi-circular rather than flat, which is what gives it the heavier, rounded look. In this catalogue it is listed only against the Day-Date and the Datejust 31 and Lady-Datejust 28, and always with a Crownclasp.

Pearlmaster

Five rounded links across with the centre link widest, so it reads as a bracelet first and a watch band second. Listed only against the Pearlmaster 29 and Pearlmaster 34, in 14 mm and 17 mm, always on a Crownclasp.

Flat Jubilee (Land-Dweller)

The Land-Dweller's bracelet, and only the Land-Dweller's. Five solid links across like a Jubilee, but every link is flat, and it is integrated into the case, so there is no end link, no lug width, and no other Rolex bracelet that fits. It closes on a concealed folding Crownclasp with no Easylink, and Rolex publishes no removable-link count for it. Rolex's part numbers are 63LA00, 63LA05 and 63LA06 for the 36 mm, and 63NA00, 63NA05 and 63NA06 for the 40 mm, in steel, Everose gold and platinum.

Settimo (Perpetual 1908)

The Perpetual 1908's metal bracelet, as an alternative to its leather strap. Seven small solid links across, in 18 ct yellow gold on the 52508, closing on a concealed folding Crownclasp. Rolex's part number is 13HC08, 20 mm wide, and Rolex publishes no removable-link count for it.

Oysterflex

Flexible titanium-nickel alloy blades overmoulded in high-performance black elastomer, so it looks like rubber but is built on metal. It has no links: it is sized by fitting a different moulded section at each end, chosen from wrist size, and on current watches the clasp carries a Glidelock for fine adjustment. Worn by gold Daytonas, Yacht-Masters and Sky-Dwellers. The size charts are further down this page.

What the millimetre number measures

mm

The width in mm is the space between the case lugs, not the width of the bracelet where it meets the clasp. It is measured across the inside faces of the two lugs, where the end link of the bracelet drops in. It is not the width of the bracelet at the clasp, which tapers narrower on almost every Rolex bracelet.

Width on its own does not make a bracelet fit. The same 20 mm appears in this book against the Datejust 36, the Day-Date 36, the Submariner and the Daytona, and each one is given its own bracelet reference, because the end link is shaped to the case it meets. That is why the catalogue's own instruction is to quote the reference of the watch, and the wrist size if you have it, whenever a bracelet is ordered on its own.

Sizing: screws, and the three tool-free extensions

The removable extension links number counts links held in with screws. Fliplock and Easylink extensions are not counted; both adjust without tools. So a bracelet listed at six removable links has six links that come out with a screwdriver, and may also carry an Easylink, a Glidelock or a Fliplock on top of that for the smaller day-to-day adjustment.

one step

Easylink

A folding link inside the clasp that swings out to add about 5 mm, Rolex's own figure, then folds back. No tools, no removed links. It appears on Oysterclasp and Oysterlock bracelets alike, and it is never counted in the removable link total because it is not held in with a screw.

To lengthen

  1. With the clasp open, pull the bracelet end out from under the clasp cover so the hidden link unfolds.
  2. Swing the bracelet round and press it back into the clasp.

To shorten

  1. With the clasp open, pull the bracelet end out.
  2. Fold the extra link back on itself under the clasp cover.
  3. Press it in until it clicks.
many steps

Glidelock

A toothed rail under the clasp cover with a sliding carriage that locks into any notch. On the metal diver's bracelets Rolex gives about 20 mm of adjustment in steps of about 2 mm, which is what a diver needs when the same watch has to sit over bare skin and over a wetsuit. It is on the Submariner, Sea-Dweller and Deepsea bracelets, and on every current Oysterflex, where Rolex gives about 15 mm in steps of about 2.5 mm.

On a Submariner or Sea-Dweller

  1. Flip open the safety catch, then open the clasp.
  2. Pull the bracelet end to lift it out of its notch in the toothed rail.
  3. Slide it to the length you want, then press it back down until it locks.

On a Deepsea or Deepsea Challenge

  1. Flip open the safety catch and lift the centre panel.
  2. Slide the bracelet to the length you want.
  3. Push the centre panel back down and close the safety catch.

On an Oysterflex

  1. Open the clasp. There is no separate safety catch to flip first.
  2. Pull the bracelet end out of its notch, slide it to the length you want, and press it back down.

one big step

Fliplock

A folding extension link under the clasp that opens out to add about 26 mm on top of the Glidelock, Rolex's figure, enough to wear the watch over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick. In the 2015 catalogue it is on the Sea-Dweller 4000 and the Deepsea; among current models Rolex lists it only on the Deepsea Challenge. Like Easylink it is excluded from the removable link count.

To open

  1. Take the watch off and run the Glidelock out to its full length first.
  2. Press both ends of the extension link at the same time and it folds open.

To close

  1. Fold the link back and press the clasp end down first.
  2. Then press on both ends of the link and click the bracelet end down.

The steps follow the drawings and instructions in Rolex's own owner's booklets for the Datejust, GMT-Master II, Submariner, Sea-Dweller and Rolex Deepsea, Deepsea Challenge, Cosmograph Daytona and Sky-Dweller, put into our own words.

Reading a bracelet reference

A reference is a part number, not a size
References that sit next to each other in the book, 72600, 72601 and 72603 for example, are the same bracelet in different metals. They share a width, a removable-link count and a clasp. The reference identifies the exact part, including the material, which is why a steel bracelet and its two-tone twin are two different numbers.
Neighbouring references can still differ
Do not assume it. The four Yacht-Master 35 bracelets in the 2015 catalogue are all 17 mm on an Oysterlock, but carry four, five and six removable links depending on the reference. On the Submariner, 97200 has seven removable links where 97203, 97208 and 97209 have six. Check the row rather than the pattern.
The BR and Tridor suffixes
Some references carry a suffix. In this catalogue the BR suffix appears only on Pearlmaster bracelets and on the Karat versions of the Jubilee and President, and Tridor appears once, on a Pearlmaster 29 bracelet. Quote the suffix with the number: it is part of the part number, and dropping it asks for a different bracelet.

Dating a bracelet by its clasp code

Rolex clasps carry a small stamped code. On clasps made before the switch to random codes during 2011, collector tables read most codes as the year and month the clasp was made, which dates the clasp, and normally the bracelet, but not the watch.

Inside the clasp of a Submariner 116610LV: the stamps sit on the inner blades. T1U fits the random three-character codes dealer guides describe on clasps made since 2011. Photo: Moda's watch desk.

For 2000 to 2010, the tables use two letters for the year plus a month number from 1 to 12, so CL10 is October 2004. Guides differ on how closely clasp and watch dates match: one says a clasp can be about a year newer, or one to two years older, than its watch, while another says the bracelet's year usually matches the watch's.

Before 2000 the charts use a single letter for the year, followed by the month number, so L7 is July 1987. For 1976 to 1981 the letter may carry a V in front, so VA is 1976 and VF is 1981. From 1995 to 1998 the charts disagree: 1995 is T on some and W on others, and V, Z, U and W are each read as more than one year, so those four letters do not settle the year on their own. Before 1976 there are no letter codes: clasps carry small stamped numbers, guides disagree on whether they give the month or the quarter with the year, and clasps from about 1973 to 1975 are often unstamped. Bracelets made in the United States by C&I carry a two-digit year instead.

Dealer guides agree the code is inside the clasp but place it differently: some say the hinge or the blade, while others say to open an Oyster clasp fully and look inside the swing arm, or on a Jubilee to check the inner face of the folding blade. Two warn the stamp is tiny and suggest a loupe, one adding a phone camera in macro mode.

Dealer guides say an extra S stamped with the code marks a service replacement: genuine Rolex, but not original to the watch, so its date shows when the replacement was made. They show the S either set slightly apart or straight after the code, as in MA5S, a service part made in May 2005.

Dealer guides agree that during 2011 Rolex moved to random three-character codes, such as J4M or 72C, which no public table can date; they say only Rolex can. Some charts list CP for 2011 while others treat the whole year as random, so a 2011 clasp may carry either.

Rolex does not publish what these codes mean. A collector site that documents the table credits the theory behind it to a member of the r-l-x forum and warns that its accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Dealer and collector charts and the watch press, Fratello among them, list these letters for these years. For 1995 to 1998 the charts disagree, so the table gives the most common reading with the other charts' readings in brackets. The code dates the clasp, not the sale, so a watch sold in 2002 can carry an AB or DE clasp. Some charts add CP for 2011, but dealer guides say random three-character codes that give no date also began during 2011 and have been used since.

The end link is where the bracelet meets the lugs, and Rolex's US price list of May 2011 calls it the endpiece. A dealer guide says Rolex numbers end links to match specific types of case. The list bears this out: the end piece number, read with the references printed beside it, narrows down which case a bracelet fits, where the bracelet number alone cannot.

A GMT-Master II 116710LN on its Oyster bracelet, where the solid end links sit flush against the case. Photo: Rolex GMT Master II by Håkan Dahlström, CC BY 2.0, resized.

The table below opens with the 78790, listed with three different end pieces for four references. Rolex's own documents disagree on the A in the second row: rolex.com printed plain 78790 for the 16570 and 16710 in 2003 and 2004, while dealers call the solid end link version 78790A. One case can also take several end pieces: the list pairs the 16710 with #801 on the 78790A and #501B on the 78360, which it marks available for replacement only.

On the Submariner Date 16610, a dealer guide says a bracelet that looks as if it goes into the end link has hollow end links and is a 93150, while on the solid end link 93250 the first centre link seems to run right up to the lip of the bezel. The same guide says the 93150 was standard on the 16610 only through about 1999, so from 2002 on this check mainly flags an older or swapped bracelet.

A dealer's code guide says that on more recent solid end link bracelets, Rolex stamps the part number, a date code and the crown on the inner part of the end link, hidden until the bracelet comes off. One dealer listing for a 93250 describes 801, the end piece number the 2011 list gives that bracelet, inside the first link within the Rolex crown.

Lug holes, the spring bar holes drilled through the lugs, matter when swapping end links: a dealer guide to the Submariner 16613 says Rolex began phasing them out around 2003, and a GMT collector forum post warns that on a 16710 case without them, any GMT end link but the Jubilee 502T might not come off without destroying the end link or damaging the case. Rolex's 2011 list prints no 502T, only a 502B for the 16700 and 16710 Jubilee, marked available for replacement only.

Several recent bracelets in the list, such as the 97200 for the 116610, the 78200 for the 116710 and the 98210 for the 116660, are listed without an end piece number, while others of similar age still carry one, such as the 78590 with #843 for the 116520 and the 77210 with #811 for the 216570. The list does not say why.

What the guarantee papers say about the bracelet

How much guarantee papers say about the bracelet depends on when and where the watch was sold. The first US plastic card printed the bracelet's full reference and the card introduced in mid-2020 leaves it out, while sources disagree about the cards in between.

The US card that replaced paper had four labelled boxes on the front (Style #, Serial #, Bracelet # and Dial), and the Bracelet # box held the full five-digit reference, such as 78490 on a card for a Daytona 116520. Sources disagree on when US cards dropped that box. A French watch magazine dates a redesigned card to watches sold from about spring 2014, and its example names the bracelet only in plain words, STEEL BRACELET, with no part number. One photographed card in that design leaves that line blank. A blogger writing in 2020, however, called the four-box card the design Rolex replaced that year.

A bracelet that does not match the papers can still be genuine Rolex. Rolex's 2013 description of its service says worn or damaged case and bracelet parts are replaced with genuine Rolex parts, and collector and dealer guides say a clasp code stamped with an extra S marks a genuine service part that is not original to the watch. Answering a reader about a watch sold in 1994, a German collector blog said a clasp dated later than the sale can mean the clasp or whole bracelet was replaced, which it says happened relatively often, or that the dealer backdated the certificate's purchase date, for instance for a birthday gift. Clasp dates end with the switch to random codes, which dealer guides place in 2011, and a clasp date shows when the clasp was made, not when the watch was sold.

The dates come from collector blogs, dealer guides, forum posts and the watch press, which do not always agree and do not settle whether US cards kept the Bracelet # box after the 2014 redesign. Rolex does not publish the US paper code, and the one website that decodes it does not say which years it covers.

Checking a bracelet for stretch

Despite the name, steel does not physically stretch the way leather or rubber does, as one dealer's repair guide puts it. Dealer guides explain that pins and their holes wear and links can flatten, so small gaps open at each joint and add up along the bracelet. That repair guide calls dirt and grit inside the links the primary cause. Rolex says you can wash the case and bracelet with soapy water and a soft brush, but its care pages do not mention stretch.

A Rolex GMT-Master II with a blue and red bezel on a steel Jubilee bracelet, worn on a wrist outdoors
A GMT-Master II on a Jubilee, worn. Dealer guides say a Jubilee is more supple than an Oyster by design, so it drapes more. Photo: Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi by OpaleHorse, CC BY-SA 4.0, resized.

Dealer guides start with the hang test, holding the watch by the case to see how far the bracelet droops, but they disagree on what is healthy: some say a tight bracelet stays near horizontal, another that a healthy one droops with some flexibility. That guide calls the test a first signal, not the only signal, and says a Jubilee is naturally more supple than an Oyster, so a Jubilee that droops more is not stretched for that reason alone. Another dealer says the Jubilee's many joints make it more prone to stretch over time.

Dealer and strap-maker histories say hollow centre links stretched more, partly because grit got in and wore the pins. They say some models kept them into the mid-2000s, though they disagree on timing and Rolex has published no date for the change. Rolex says ceramic inserts added to the President bracelet in 2015 sit around the pins to help prevent premature wear.

Dealer guides say removing a link or adjusting the clasp can snug up a bracelet with minor play but does not reverse existing looseness, and a dealer's repair guide adds that once pins are worn, which it calls common on vintage bracelets, removing links will not fix the "jingle-jangle" feel. For worse cases the guides describe new pins or a partial rebuild, and say severe stretch may call for a replacement bracelet.

Rolex says servicing re-polishes or satin-finishes the bracelet according to its original finish, but its servicing-procedure page and service FAQ never mention stretch or promise to tighten a worn bracelet. Dealers say Rolex service centres do not tighten or restore stretched bracelets and offer a replacement instead.

Stretch checks to do in person or ask a seller to show
CheckHow it is doneWhat to look for
Hang testHold the watch only by the case, dial facing the ceiling and parallel to the floor; if buying remotely, ask the seller for a photo of thisHow far the bracelet droops, judged against the same bracelet type at a similar age; guides disagree on how much droop is healthy
Side viewIn person, look at the bracelet straight from the side; remotely, ask for straight-on side photos and, when possible, a short video of someone handling and gently bending the bracelet, filmed from the sideToo much light showing between links, uneven spacing, or a jagged outline where the links should form a smooth curve
Lay flatRest the bracelet on a flat surface or your palmLinks that are not snug against each other
Side-to-side playLay the watch on a soft table, gently curve the band side to side, then move each link between your fingersExcess play at the joints, or play that varies from joint to joint; dealer guides say a small amount is normal, especially on vintage pieces
ShakeShake your wrist gentlyRattling or clicking sounds
Clasp and the links next to the caseLook closely at the clasp and at the links where the bracelet meets the caseGaps, uneven spacing or loose play; a dealer guide says these parts tend to take the most strain

These are dealer rules of thumb, not Rolex guidance. The lay-flat check comes from Elite Watch Co, a Moda vendor and paid partner, in its guide to Jubilee bracelets.

What a Rolex service does to the bracelet

Rolex says that in a service the bracelet is detached before the movement comes out, and that "the movement, case and bracelet will follow separate paths during servicing before being reassembled at the end of the process." The bracelet goes back on only after the whole watch has been pressure-tested in water.

If a seller claims a full Rolex service, ask for the Rolex Service Card. Rolex's card page (archived December 2025) says one comes back with the watch after every full service performed by a Rolex Authorized Service Center, but not which watches or years this applies to. On Rolex's WatchID page for the card (watchid.rolex.com), the "Last service performed" section for the latest complete overhaul can list a "Guarantee exclusion", and "Bracelet" is one of the possible entries, so a Rolex overhaul record can leave the bracelet out of the two-year service guarantee. Ask what that section shows, though the page does not say why, or how often, Rolex excludes a bracelet.

Rolex's guarantee on new watches excludes "normal wear-and-tear" in general and names only non-metal bracelets and straps, so nothing in it promises that stretch in a metal bracelet is covered. Rolex's servicing procedure and FAQ pages never use the word "stretch" and do not promise to tighten a bracelet.

We found no Rolex guidance on spotting a heavily polished bracelet, so these signs come from dealer guides. They say link edges should feel defined rather than rounded, and that a bracelet that looks smooth with a uniform shine may have been polished. On the case, they say over-polished watches typically have thinner, rounder lugs with little to no edge definition.

One more check is our own inference from Rolex's rule, not a Rolex statement. Rolex says the case parts and bracelet are "re-polished or satin-finished according to their original finish", so brushed surfaces that now shine like a mirror, or blurred lines between brushed and polished areas, may suggest refinishing that did not follow that rule. Compare the bracelet with that reference's factory finish, since not every Oyster bracelet surface is brushed, and remember that an evenly refinished bracelet may simply have had a Rolex service.

Inspection and estimateThe FAQ says that before a service the watchmaker's diagnostic examination includes "carefully examining the case and bracelet". Once the estimate is approved, the servicing begins."FAQ, rolex.com (archived June 2026) for the case and bracelet check; servicing procedure page, rolex.com (archived December 2025) for the estimate
Refinishing"The case is completely disassembled and the middle case, bezel, case back and bracelet are re-polished or satin-finished according to their original finish."Servicing procedure page, rolex.com (same wording 2022 to 2026)
Worn parts"After initial cleaning, the case and bracelet of your watch are closely examined and any worn or damaged components replaced with genuine Rolex parts."Servicing page, rolex.com (archived 2013)
Service guaranteeThe watch is returned in a protective pouch with "an international two-year service guarantee" covering replacement parts and labour.Servicing procedure page, rolex.com (unchanged 2022 to 2025)
Service Card"At the end of every full service performed by a Rolex Authorized Service Center, your watch is returned with a Rolex Service Card." The card is read by placing it near a smartphone that is NFC-enabled with the function activated.Rolex Service Card page, rolex.com (archived December 2025)
Service guarantee limitsIn 2013, damage from an accident or from mishandling was excluded, and work by a third party Rolex had not authorized, or the addition of non-Rolex parts or accessories, voided the service guarantee. The current WatchID service guarantee notice also excludes accident or mishandling damage, and says that work by a third party Rolex has not authorized, or "modification by adding or substituting components or accessories not manufactured by Rolex", cancels the guarantee.Servicing page, rolex.com (archived 2013); WatchID service card notice, watchid.rolex.com (read September 2026)
Bracelet-only jobs"From adjusting the length of a bracelet to carrying out a complete overhaul, every type of servicing operation for a Rolex watch can be entrusted to Rolex World Service."Servicing philosophy page, rolex.com (archived May 2026)
Who should polish"Professional polishing of your watch case and bracelet should only be done by an Official Rolex Service Center."FAQ, rolex.com (US, 2026)
Cleaning at homeWith the winding crown screwed down, clean the watch occasionally with a microfibre cloth and "wash the case and bracelet (except leather straps) from time to time using soapy water and a soft brush". Rinse it in fresh water after wearing it in the sea.FAQ, rolex.com (2019 and 2026)
Five-year guarantee"The Rolex guarantee excludes normal wear-and-tear (notably the wear-and-tear of non-metal bracelets and straps), loss, theft, or damage due to misuse." It is valid only if an Official Rolex Jeweler sold the watch and completed the guarantee card in full at the time of purchase, and the card is presented with the watch. Rolex says the five-year term applies to new watches bought from 1 July 2015, and that watches bought between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2015 had their guarantee extended to three years.Rolex guarantee page, rolex.com (2026); start dates from the care and maintenance page, rolex.com (archived April 2017)
Aftermarket braceletsRolex listed "the addition of aftermarket diamonds, bezels, dials and bracelets" among modifications by non-authorized third parties that it did not approve, and said adding or substituting non-Rolex parts "cancels the guarantee and limits the servicing of your watch."Care and maintenance page, rolex.com (archived April 2017)

A Rolex bracelet timeline since 1996

Rolex did not change all of its bracelets at once: one aftermarket strap maker's history says solid centre links reached the GMT-Master II, Milgauss and Daytona before the Submariner, and the watch press dates Glidelock on the gold Submariner Date to 2008, two years before dealer guides place it on the steel one. The table quotes Rolex wherever Rolex gives a year and otherwise says what kind of source a date comes from. Rolex has not dated the move to solid links, so those rows give a range, and the same strap maker warns that respected references conflict.

Two Rolex patents describe mechanisms like its two clasp extensions. US patent 5,771,543, first filed in Switzerland on 17 July 1996, matches the year Rolex gives for Easylink: it describes a folding-clasp link that pivots between two set lengths without a special tool, and it names an earlier Swiss patent from 1987 with a similar device, so 1996 marks Rolex's improvement rather than the birth of the idea. US patent 8,001,658, first filed in Europe on 6 October 2006, about two years before Rolex says it introduced Glidelock, describes rack teeth inside the clasp cover that let a band, a diving watch band in particular, fit both with and without a diving suit. Neither patent uses the names Easylink or Glidelock, so linking them to those products is our reading, not a Rolex statement.

Rolex bracelet changes from 1996 to 2025, and what each means for a buyer
YearChangeWhat it means for a buyer
1996 (patent year)Rolex says Easylink, its "rapid extension system", was "patented in 1996", but it does not say which watch had it first. It is hidden under the clasp and adjusts the length by about 5 mm.On a watch fitted with Easylink, open the extension and close it again when inspecting it, since Rolex says a single move unclips the extra link or clips it back.
Around 2000 (dealer estimates run from the late 1990s to the early 2000s)Dealer guides say the Oyster bracelets on sports models got solid end links, with the no-date Submariner 14060M as the exception.Fratello, writing about watch bracelets in general, says solid end links are machined from a solid block, add heft and are less likely to jingle than the older folded-steel kind. One dealer guide says that on the GMT-Master II 16710 only the Oyster bracelet changed, and the Jubilee kept its earlier end links.
Around 2000 to the mid-2000s (a range, not one year)Solid centre links replace hollow ones. One dealer guide says fully solid bracelets became standard around 2000, another says the move began in the early 2000s on Oyster and Jubilee bracelets, and an aftermarket strap maker's history says hollow centres lasted until the mid-2000s, with the GMT-Master II, Milgauss and Daytona first and the Submariner last.By these accounts, a bracelet made after 2002 can be original to its watch and still have hollow centre links, which dealer and strap-maker guides say stretch more than solid ones.
2008Rolex says its Glidelock extension system was "Introduced in 2008 and patented". Rolex's newsroom says the Deepsea 116660 was "Released in 2008", and a dealer guide and a strap maker say it came with Glidelock, while Monochrome reports Glidelock that year on the new gold Submariner Date, 116618 in yellow gold and 116619 in white gold.Rolex says Glidelock sits under the clasp cover and adjusts some bracelets by up to about 15 or 20 mm, notch by notch, without tools. The sources do not agree on which 2008 watch had it first.
2010A dealer guide says the steel Submariner Date 116610, introduced at Baselworld 2010, came with solid centre links, solid end links and Glidelock, calling this "another first in the history of steel Submariners".Read that claim of a first narrowly: dealer guides put solid end links on the steel 16610 from around 2000, and the watch press reports Glidelock on the gold Submariner Date from 2008. What was new in 2010 was Glidelock on a steel Submariner and, by this dealer's account, solid centre links too.
2011Dealer guides say clasp codes that give a year and month gave way to random three-character codes in 2011, in mid-2011 by some accounts.A dated code such as DT for 2002 or RS for 2010 shows when the clasp was made, not the watch. Later codes are random and date nothing, and because some charts also list a dated code for 2011, a 2011 clasp may carry either kind. Collectors worked out these code meanings and dealers repeat them, but Rolex has never published them.
2012Hodinkee's launch report on the no-date Submariner 114060, shown at Baselworld 2012, describes a solid-link Oyster bracelet with a new-generation Oysterlock clasp and Glidelock, and SJX says the 114060 replaced the 14060M.Dealer guides say the 14060M was the last sports model to keep hollow end links and a stamped clasp, so on that watch they are part of the original design. Hodinkee says the Glidelock on the 114060 adjusts in 2 mm steps for about 20 mm in total.
2015Rolex says the Oysterflex was "introduced in 2015 on the Yacht-Master 37", built from two supple metal blades overmoulded with a high-performance elastomer, with cushions beneath.Rolex's newsroom calls it a "Rolex-designed, patented bracelet" without saying which patent. A Swiss Rolex patent first filed in 2011 describes a strap reinforced by a superelastic alloy blade inside a flexible casing such as elastomer, but it never names the Oysterflex, so tying the two together is our reading.
2015Rolex says "In 2015, ceramic inserts were added" to the President bracelet, and its newsroom says the inserts are designed by Rolex, patented, and sit around the pins inside the links.Rolex says the inserts help prevent premature wear. Monochrome reports that platinum President bracelets on the earlier Day-Date II already had them and that 2015 extended them to every metal.
2019Glidelock comes to the Oysterflex: Rolex's 2019 spec pages list it on the white gold Yacht-Master 42 (226659) and the Everose Yacht-Master 40 (126655). Rolex's newsroom gives six notches of about 2.5 mm, for up to about 15 mm, while Time+Tide describes five to six positions and 12 to 15 mm.Time+Tide says the clasp looks like the classic Oysterlock outside but hides a Glidelock rail, which Rolex places under the clasp cover. On an Everose Yacht-Master 40 on Oysterflex, a plain Oysterlock with no Glidelock fits the earlier 116655, not the 126655. Rolex's newsroom also shows the Oysterflex Sky-Dweller with Glidelock, but under an Oysterclasp rather than an Oysterlock.
2023The precious-metal Oysterflex Daytonas 126518LN, 126515LN and 126519LN list Glidelock on rolex.com.Their predecessors, such as the 116515LN, used a 5 mm Easylink instead.
2025Rolex says the Flat Jubilee was "Introduced in 2025 on the Land-Dweller", with five flat links, the three centre ones polished and slightly raised, and an attachment system "designed to be completely invisible".Monochrome reports ceramic inserts where the bracelet meets the case and a concealed folding Crownclasp with "no micro-adjustment on the clasp".
2025Rolex says the Settimo was "introduced in 2025 on the 1908 model", with rows of seven rounded, polished links in 18k yellow gold and a near-invisible Crownclasp.Monochrome says the 1908 had been offered only on leather straps until then. Rolex's 2025 launch text said a patent had been filed for its attachment system, which rolex.com now calls patented.

Wording in quotation marks is Rolex's own unless the same cell credits it to another source. Where a cell credits a date to a dealer guide, a strap maker or the watch press, Rolex has not published that date, and the clasp-code history comes from collectors and dealers rather than from Rolex.

References from 2002 to 2021

368 references Rolex sold between 2002 and 2021 that have since left the price list, each answered from Rolex's own documents: the price lists we hold from 2002, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2020, and Rolex's model pages as archived between 2002 and 2021. The bracelet is the part Rolex printed against that exact reference. Width, removable links and clasp come from the bracelet tables in the same lists, with the 2015 trade catalogue filling in only where those tables say nothing. A part marked with a year appears in older Rolex price lists for this watch but not the newest one: either the part for watches sold in those years, or an option Rolex has since dropped.

References Rolex did not print

67 references that none of Rolex's price lists or model pages we hold give a bracelet for: mostly gem-set and off-catalogue versions, gold references on leather straps and the Cellini models from 2014 on, plus a few recent models Rolex leaves out of its price lists, such as the Le Mans Daytonas and the Perpetual Padellone. Each was researched one at a time, and each figure shown was confirmed by independent checks; anything that was not confirmed is left blank rather than filled in.

Older watches in Rolex's bracelet tables

78 older watches, most of them sold before 2002, that Rolex's May 2011 US price list names only in its bracelet tables, as the watches a replacement bracelet fits. Each bracelet here is Rolex's own row: the part, the width and the end piece it printed for that reference. Rolex no longer sold these watches by then, so these are the replacements it supplied; the bracelet a watch left the factory on may be an older design with a different number. The model, size and case metal were confirmed by two independent sources.

Reading a whole reference number

The leading digits are the model. On many references the second-to-last digit is the bezel, but not on every Professional model: the 116610 Submariner Date has a rotatable bezel and its second-to-last digit is 1. On five- and six-digit references the last digit is the metal of the watch (older four-digit references such as the steel 5513 do not follow it), and on most references the bracelet is the same metal, which is why a reference pins the bracelet down. Some wear a plain steel bracelet: watches ending in 4 (White Rolesor) and 2 (Rolesium), and the yellow Rolesor Oyster Perpetuals Rolex added in 2026 (126003, 134303 and 277203), which Rolex lists on the same steel bracelet as the steel versions. Take 126233: Datejust 36, fluted bezel, steel and yellow gold, on a steel and yellow gold bracelet.

Oysterflex, which has no links at all

Oysterflex is a metal blade overmoulded in elastomer, so nothing comes out with a screwdriver. It is sized by fitting different moulded sections at the six and twelve o'clock ends, and the section is chosen from wrist size. It does not appear in the 2015 link catalogue.

If your wrist falls between two rows, use the row it is closer to. Rolex's user guides and rolex.com give no section chart, only the Glidelock range of about 15 mm in steps of about 2.5 mm. These two charts match a printed sizing sheet posted on a Rolex collectors' forum in November 2018, whose origin is not confirmed. Its Yacht-Master chart names the Yacht-Master 37 (268655), the 2015 Everose Yacht-Master 40 (116655) and the gem-set 116695SATS; its Daytona chart names the 116515LN, 116518LN and 116519LN. Other Daytonas, including the 1265xx on the Glidelock clasp, are not named on the sheet, and the Yacht-Master 37 has gained a Glidelock clasp since it was printed. Which chart fits the current Yacht-Master 40 (126655) is not settled: Rolex sells it on the same strap parts as the Everose Daytona, while the sheet puts its predecessor on the Yacht-Master chart. The Yacht-Master 42 and the Sky-Dweller appear on no chart we have found.

The sections each Oysterflex comes fitted with

Rolex prints two letters after every Oysterflex part number: the sections fitted at the factory, six o'clock first. 37HA18 BLACK DF is D at six and F at twelve. Rolex's June 2024 price list sold the Daytona and Yacht-Master Oysterflex in two or three fitted sizes, each under its own part number, and the Sky-Dweller in one; the 2025 and 2026 lists offer one size for each model.

Oysterflex part numbers by watch reference, with the sections fitted at six and twelve o'clock and the Rolex price lists each appears in.

What this matters for on the secondary market

A bracelet is easy to swap, it stretches with wear, and one that is close but not correct can pass at a glance. Three things are worth checking before money moves.

  • Does the reference match the watch. The clasp code and bracelet reference are stamped on the bracelet. A 20 mm bracelet from a different model will physically mount on some cases and still be the wrong part.
  • Stretch. Wear at the link pins opens gaps between links. Held horizontally a worn bracelet sags and rattles. Stretch cannot be reversed by cleaning; it is fixed by replacing links or the bracelet.
  • Count the links against the book. A bracelet that has been sized down for a small wrist may be missing links a future owner will need. Removed links are part of the watch: ask for them, and expect to pay for a set if they are gone.

About this data

Current references come from Rolex's own published data: its official price lists from 2022 to 2026 for the bracelet part each reference ships on, and its model pages, read on 22 September 2026, for the width, clasp and removable links. References sold from 2002 to 2021 come from Rolex's price lists of 2002, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2020 and its model pages as archived between 2002 and 2021, with a 2015 Rolex bracelet catalogue, the book a dealer or watchmaker uses to order a bracelet on its own, filling in width, clasp or removable links only where those lists say nothing. A few gaps are filled from other Rolex documents: its 2015 and 2018 brochures, its 2019 presentation kit, and the bracelet image file names on its archived model pages, each named on the answer it fills. References none of those documents give a bracelet for were researched one at a time, and a figure is shown only where at least two of three independent checks confirmed it and none contradicted it; those are labelled as research. Full-bracelet link counts are Moda's own. The diagrams on this page are our own drawings, and the photos are either Moda's own, from its watch desk, or Creative Commons photos credited under each one; none are Rolex images. Common questions

What bracelet fits my Rolex?
Type the reference off your watch into the lookup on this page. It holds 623 references sold from 2002 on. The 188 from Rolex's price lists since 2022 and the 368 from Rolex's 2002 to 2021 price lists and archived model pages are answered from what Rolex printed against that reference: a bracelet part number for nearly every metal bracelet, and only the strap type for most leather straps and a few Oysterflex references, where Rolex printed no number. The other 67, which none of Rolex's price lists or model pages we hold give a bracelet for, were researched one at a time. Match the reference rather than the width alone: two models with the same lug width often take different bracelet parts, because the end link is shaped to the case, which is why Rolex asks for the watch's own reference when a bracelet is ordered on its own.
How many links does a Rolex bracelet have?
It depends on the reference, not on the bracelet, which is why you have to look it up rather than learn one number. A 116610 Submariner is 12 links and the 126610 that replaced it is 11. The Yacht-Master II 116680, 116681, 116688 and 116689 are 11. A Daytona 116500 or 126500 is 12, and so is an Explorer 124270 or 214270. The current Oyster Perpetual 31, 34 and 36 (277200, 124200, 126000) and the 124300 Oyster Perpetual 41 are 12, but the Oyster Perpetual 28 (276200) is 11. The Deepsea 126660 and the Deepsea Challenge are ten full links plus a half link and the diver's extension; the 136660 that replaced the 126660 is 11. Only full links count: not the two end links, and not a half link. Moda's table covers 74 reference numbers, which gives a count for 114 references in the lookup once suffix versions and references on the same bracelet part are included. Links is the number of full links in a complete bracelet. The two end links are not counted, and neither is a half link. Fewer links than this means links were taken out to size it. Removed links are part of the watch: ask for them, and price a set in if they are gone.
Why do Rolex's older price lists give a different link count?
Because Rolex counted differently. Its price lists and bracelet catalogues up to early 2015 print a link total for each bracelet, and its 2012 to 2015 catalogues say how that total was taken: "the links are always counted on the outer rim without the flush-fit end-pieces." It is not our full-link count, and the gap is not always the same. On the modern Oyster sport bracelets we could compare, Rolex's total is one above ours, but for the Submariner 14060M's bracelet (93150) both are 12, and Rolex's own total for the gold and two-tone Submariner Date bracelets was 12 in its 2009-10 catalogue and 13 in its later lists. From the 2015-16 catalogue on, Rolex prints removable links instead, meaning the links held in with screws. Rolex's documents do not say which piece makes the difference, so we do not guess. Our number is full links in a complete bracelet, with neither end link and no half link counted.
How many links does a Jubilee or President bracelet have?
On a Jubilee, President or Pearlmaster, go by the removable links rather than a full-bracelet total. We do not yet hold full-bracelet counts we can stand behind for these bracelets, and the number that settles a sizing question is how many come out.
How many links on a Rolex bracelet come out, and do they have screws?
That is the removable extension link count, and yes, they are the screw-in ones: the catalogue's own key defines removable extension links as the links held in with screws, with Fliplock and Easylink excepted; both of those adjust without tools. In the 2015 catalogue it runs from three links up to nine on the Day-Date 40 President. On current references Rolex lists five on most Oyster bracelets and up to nine on the Jubilee and President, and the lookup gives the number for your exact bracelet.
Can my Rolex wear a two-tone or gold bracelet?
Only if the watch itself is that metal. The model may have been offered in several, but your reference is one of them and the bracelet has to match it. A steel Submariner Date reference takes the steel bracelet and nothing else, even though the Submariner Date was also built in steel and gold, yellow gold and white gold. Put the full reference into the lookup and it returns the bracelet for that reference rather than for the model.
What metal is my Rolex bracelet?
The last digit of the bracelet reference says so, the same convention Rolex uses on watch references: 0 is steel, 1 steel and Everose gold, 3 steel and yellow gold, 5 18 ct pink gold (made in Rolex's own Everose alloy since 2005), 6 platinum, 7 RLX titanium, 8 yellow gold and 9 white gold. So 72800 is the steel Datejust 36 Oyster, 72801 the steel and Everose version and 72803 steel and yellow. A BR suffix marks the gem-set versions. The watch can differ from its bracelet: a White Rolesor or Rolesium watch has its precious metal on the bezel and wears a steel bracelet, and Rolex lists the yellow Rolesor Oyster Perpetuals it added in 2026 (126003, 134303 and 277203) on the same steel bracelet as the steel versions.
What does the mm number on a Rolex bracelet mean?
The width in mm is the space between the case lugs, not the width of the bracelet where it meets the clasp. Across the 2015 catalogue the widths run from 13 mm to 21 mm. A 13 mm bracelet is a Lady-Datejust 26 or Oyster Perpetual 26 fitment; 20 mm covers the Datejust 36, Day-Date 36, Submariner and Daytona; 21 mm covers the Day-Date 40, Sky-Dweller, Yacht-Master II and Deepsea. Several current models moved: Rolex lists the 2020 Submariner at 21 mm, the Sea-Dweller, Deepsea, Explorer II, Yacht-Master II and current Sky-Dweller at 22 mm, and the Explorer 36 down to 19 mm.
What is the difference between an Oyster and a Jubilee bracelet?
An Oyster bracelet is three flat links across, with a broad centre link. A Jubilee is five links across, with three smaller rounded links running down the centre, so it reads dressier and sits more flexibly. Both are offered on the Datejust, which is why the same case size appears in the 2015 catalogue against both an Oyster reference and a Jubilee reference.
What is the difference between Easylink, Glidelock and Fliplock?
All three lengthen the bracelet without tools, and none of them count toward the removable link total. By Rolex's own figures: Easylink is a folding link inside the clasp that adds about 5 mm. Glidelock is a toothed rail under the clasp cover with a sliding carriage; on the metal diver's bracelets it adjusts up to about 20 mm in steps of about 2 mm, and on the Oysterflex up to about 15 mm in steps of about 2.5 mm. Fliplock is a folding extension link that adds about 26 mm on top of the Glidelock, enough to wear the watch over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick; among current models Rolex lists it only on the Deepsea Challenge. Rolex's older bracelet tables also print Fliplock against earlier diver's bracelets such as the 93150 and 93250, so the lookup shows it there as Rolex printed it.
How do I adjust my Rolex bracelet without tools?
Only if it has one of the three extensions; otherwise a link has to come out with a screwdriver. Easylink: with the clasp open, pull the bracelet end out so the hidden link unfolds and press it back in, which adds about 5 mm, or fold the link back under the clasp cover until it clicks to take the 5 mm off. Glidelock on a Submariner or Sea-Dweller: flip open the safety catch, open the clasp, pull the bracelet out of its notch, slide it to the length you want and press it back down. On a Deepsea you lift the centre panel instead, and on an Oysterflex there is no safety catch to flip first. Fliplock: take the watch off, run the Glidelock out fully, then press both ends of the extension link at once to open it. These steps follow Rolex's owner's booklets.
What is the difference between an Oysterclasp, an Oysterlock and a Crownclasp?
Oysterclasp is the plain folding clasp, on most Oyster bracelets outside the Professional models and on the current Datejust 36, Datejust 41 and Sky-Dweller Jubilees. Oysterlock adds a safety catch over the clasp so it cannot be knocked open; Rolex describes it as intended for its Professional watches, and every current Professional model carries it, including the GMT-Master II Jubilee; earlier, the Milgauss and the 116900 Air-King closed on an Oysterclasp. Crownclasp is the concealed clasp, where the crown on the cover is the release and the clasp disappears into the bracelet when closed: it is on the President, the Pearlmaster, the Land-Dweller's Flat Jubilee, the Perpetual 1908's Settimo, and the Datejust 31 and Lady-Datejust Jubilees. Every Jubilee in the 2015 catalogue is on a Crownclasp.
Can I put a Jubilee bracelet on my Submariner?
Not a Rolex-listed one. In every Rolex price list and model page we hold from 2002 on, the Submariner and Submariner Date appear only on Oyster bracelets, and so do the Explorer II and the Cosmograph Daytona's metal bracelets. Rolex fits each bracelet to specific cases through its end pieces, so a Jubilee made for another model is not listed for them. Some models were offered on both: the GMT-Master II, the Datejust and the Sky-Dweller appear on an Oyster and on a Jubilee. Type your reference into the lookup and it lists every bracelet Rolex printed for it.
Does Rolex sell bracelets on their own?
Rolex prices bracelets as parts in their own right: its price lists carry bracelet tables with each part number, its width and the watches it fits, and those tables are where this page's bracelet numbers come from. Because the end link is shaped to the case, a bracelet is identified by the watch's own reference when it is ordered on its own. Rolex also says its service network takes bracelet-only work, from adjusting a bracelet's length to a complete service.
Does a Rolex clasp code tell me the year my watch was made?
Only indirectly, because collector tables read the code as the date the clasp, and normally the bracelet, was made, not the date of the watch or its sale. Guides differ on how closely the two match: one says a clasp can be about a year newer, or one to two years older, than the watch it came on, while another says the bracelet usually matches the watch's year. A replacement clasp carries the date the replacement was made, and dealer guides say codes stamped after Rolex's switch during 2011 are random characters that no public table can date.
What does an S next to a Rolex clasp code mean?
Dealer guides say an extra S stamped with the code marks a service replacement clasp or bracelet. It is genuine Rolex but not original to the watch, so its date shows when the replacement was made, not when the watch was. For example, MA5S is a service part made in May 2005. An S followed only by a month number, such as S5, is different: on older clasps it was the year code for 1994.
Why can the same Rolex bracelet number fit different watches?
A dealer guide says Rolex numbers end links to match specific types of case, and Rolex's own US price list of May 2011 shows one bracelet number listed with several different end pieces. That list prints the 78790 with end piece #558B for model 14270 (an Explorer), as 78790A with #801 for models 16570 (Explorer II) and 16710 (GMT-Master II), and with #501B for model 16700 (a GMT-Master). The end piece number, read with the references it is listed for, narrows down which cases a bracelet was made for.
How can I tell hollow end links from solid ones on a Rolex?
Fratello, writing about bracelets in general rather than Rolex alone, says end links were for a long time basically folded sheets of steel, while solid ones are machined from a solid block of steel or precious metal, add heft and are less likely to jingle. On the Submariner Date 16610, a dealer guide says hollow end links, standard on that model only through about 1999, make the bracelet look as if it goes into the end link, while with solid ones the first centre link seems to run right up to the lip of the bezel. On more recent solid end link bracelets, a dealer's code guide says the part number is stamped on the inner part of the end link, so the bracelet has to come off before you can read it.
Does the Rolex guarantee card show the bracelet reference?
It depends on the card. The US card that replaced paper guarantees in the mid-2000s had a Bracelet # box with the full reference, while international cards of that period had none. Published examples of the card redesigned around 2014 show the bracelet only as plain words such as STEEL BRACELET, or not at all, and sources do not settle when US cards dropped the Bracelet # box. The card introduced in mid-2020 carries only the model reference, serial and purchase date, and dealer and press reports on the April 2026 revision do not mention a bracelet line being added.
If my bracelet doesn't match the papers, is it fake?
Not necessarily. Rolex's 2013 description of its service says worn or damaged case and bracelet parts are replaced with genuine Rolex parts, and collector and dealer guides say a clasp code stamped with an extra S marks a genuine service part that is not original to the watch. On its website in 2017, Rolex listed aftermarket bracelets among the modifications it does not approve, and said that adding or substituting parts not made by Rolex, or any change by a third party it has not authorized, "cancels the guarantee and limits the servicing of your watch."
Can a stretched Rolex bracelet be tightened?
Dealer guides say removing a link or adjusting the clasp can make a bracelet with minor play fit more snugly but does not reverse looseness that is already there, and that worn pins call for new pins or a partial rebuild, while severe stretch may call for a replacement bracelet. Rolex says a service re-polishes or satin-finishes the bracelet, and its servicing-procedure page and service FAQ never mention stretch. Rolex says its service network also handles adjusting a bracelet's length, which is sizing rather than a repair. Dealers say Rolex offers a replacement bracelet rather than restoring a stretched one.
Does a droopy Jubilee bracelet mean it is stretched?
Droop alone does not prove it: Rolex calls the Jubilee a five-piece link bracelet and the Oyster a three-piece one, and one dealer guide says the Jubilee is naturally more supple than an Oyster, so a Jubilee that droops more than an Oyster in a hang test is not stretched for that reason alone. Another dealer says the Jubilee's many joints make it more prone to stretch over time, so droop does not settle the question either way. The first guide calls the hang test a first signal, not the only signal, so compare the bracelet with the same type at a similar age and check side photos for uneven gaps between links.
Does a Rolex service polish the bracelet?
Rolex's standard servicing procedure includes it: Rolex says the middle case, bezel, case back and bracelet "are re-polished or satin-finished according to their original finish," so each surface should keep the finish it left the factory with. The bracelet is detached, follows a separate path from the movement and case, and is refitted only after the watch has been pressure-tested in water. Rolex also says professional polishing of the case and bracelet should only be done by an Official Rolex Service Center.
Does an aftermarket bracelet affect the Rolex guarantee?
Rolex's older pages say yes. A rolex.com page archived in 2017 listed "the addition of aftermarket diamonds, bezels, dials and bracelets" among modifications by non-authorized third parties that Rolex did not approve, and said adding or substituting non-Rolex parts "cancels the guarantee and limits the servicing of your watch." Its 2013 servicing page said adding non-Rolex parts or accessories would void the two-year service guarantee. The service guarantee notice on Rolex's current WatchID page keeps the rule in general terms, without naming bracelets: "modification by adding or substituting components or accessories not manufactured by Rolex cancels the guarantee."
When did Rolex bracelets get solid links?
Rolex has not published a date, so the answer comes from dealer guides and the watch press, which put solid end links on sports-model Oyster bracelets around 2000. Their estimates run from the late 1990s to the early 2000s for end links and from around 2000 to the mid-2000s for solid centre links, and one strap maker's history puts the Submariner last. One dealer guide dates solid centre links on the steel Submariner Date to the 116610 in 2010, and others say the no-date Submariner kept hollow end links until the 114060 replaced the 14060M in 2012.
When did Glidelock come out?
Rolex says its Glidelock extension system was "Introduced in 2008 and patented." A dealer guide and a strap maker say the Deepsea launched with it in 2008, and Monochrome reports it that year on the new gold Submariner Date, but the sources do not agree on which came first. Dealer guides put it on the steel Submariner Date 116610 in 2010, and Rolex's 2019 spec pages list it on Oysterflex Yacht-Master models.
