Why it matters
Speedy is the affectionate nickname for the Omega Speedmaster, one of the most recognizable chronographs ever made. Most often it means the Moonwatch, the manual-wind Speedmaster Professional, but the Speedmaster line also includes automatic, racing-dial, and limited-edition variants.
Because the Speedmaster sells in volume across decades, the reference and caliber decide condition and price more than the nickname. For vintage Speedies, dial, hands, and bezel originality drive value; for modern, box and papers and crystal type (hesalite or sapphire) matter.
Common questions
- What is a Speedy watch?
- Speedy is the nickname for the Omega Speedmaster chronograph. It most often refers to the manual-wind Speedmaster Professional, also called the Moonwatch.
- Is every Speedy a Moonwatch?
- No. The Moonwatch is specifically the manual-wind Speedmaster Professional that descends from the NASA-qualified model. The Speedmaster line also includes automatic and racing variants that are Speedies but not Moonwatches.
